Today the weather in Yokohama is warm but windy, and the pollen is in the air. Since this morning I have been sniffling and eyes continually watering due to hay fever.
Spent a good part of last week and this weekend organizing contacts, work flows, and project templates (using this software for OS X) as I am getting ready to leave the bank and move back into consulting. Already have a pretty good gig lined up with another bank that starts first of March. However, while cleaning up my addresses, I noticed something that made me think a while about how tolerant Japanese can be.
I was looking at the name of my old boss while employed at a large audit firm. He was Japanese, but his first name as listed in my address book was listed with the wrong characters. That is, correct common characters for his name, but not his particular set of Kanji. That means that I have been addressing Junya by the wrong name in emails for over six years now and he has not said one word. Well, I just updated the address book. Now I have to find an opportunity to apologize profusely.

Three Day Weekend
It's a Friday night at the start of a three-day weekend. We have one of my wife's friends and her two girls over this evening for tacos, which is something you don't get to eat very often in Japan.
Gave notice at my job this week and soon after realized that I still have 29 days of vacation left, so I will work the rest of this month and take next month off. While vacationing on my regular job during March, will try to pickup a consulting gig, so that I can make a little extra money for the computer upgrade to a 17" MacBook Pro.
Forex
Nothing spectacular this week with a couple of swing trades and about a US$100 gain. Not bad for playing with only about $900. And even better when you consider that I only started with $464. I read a strategy column on EUR/USD about a month ago that stated the EUR would climb to about 1.4900 then retreat down to the 1.43 level, then shoot back up. Well the EUR is at 1.4489 and I am kind of nervous. Have been making money on trades this week with shorts, but am not too comfortable going into another short trade with this pair floating at such a low level. Any way, in a few minutes will pull out of this trade and go long at about the 1.446x level with a take profit at about 1.453x then close out the week. Suspect that there will be a spike on Monday.... we'll see.

Been A While
It's been a couple weeks since I have had time (or taken time) to sit down and update my blog. Over the past month, have managed to add a couple dollars to the forex portfolio, but nothing spectacular. A little nervous right at this moment because all the signals were calling a sell-off after EUR/USD hit 1.4900. Have not seen a sell-off start yet, but after passing through 1.4900, this pair is still floating between 1.4800 and 1.4900. So late this week, I decided to trade only lightly and bail quick on any losses.
Here's a couple of pics that I took over the past weeks, and will have a few more of Aya's pre-school recital performance today.
