Getting Stuck On The Road In Japan - JAF To The Rescue

Late last night a friend of mine called to explain that another friend was stuck by the highway down toward Disneyland on the outskirts of Tokyo. So far, I have not had this issue, but can certainly say that I fear the day it comes along. Even if you speak the language, the roads are an unfriendly place to leave your car until the next morning, since the side margins do not offer a lot of room. Just leaving your car and picking it up promptly the next morning will most likely result in citation and an expensive impounding.
The first thing I did when receiving the call was to look-up JAF and see if they had an English web site since my friend does not speak, much less read, Japanese. I went to this web site  and on the far left there is an English PDF file that explains JAF services in Japan for members and non-members alike. It also lists the phone numbers to call when you need help, however in good Japanese fashion, it's not on the first page or listed in an intuitive and dominant placement that you would want in an emergency.
JAF answered the phone and promptly passed the request onto a good English speaker that managed to get a JAF tow vehicle to the scene in less than an hour.

Pixels Really Don't Matter

I started this blog as a photo blog about three years ago, but it has gradually grown into a Japan chronicle as well as photos. This particular posting is about pictures. Over the last couple months I have seen some beautiful pictures snapped with iphones - my own and other peoples. I have to admit that it is not always the equipment, but the location, timing, and framing of a scene that is most important in getting a good shot.

This picture, for example does it all for me. Ranked as one of the best Mt. Fuji shots that I have taken. Enjoy.... comment.
