Security Focus has a good article on Automatic Patch-Based Exploit Generation (APEG) where researchers from Carnegie Mellon and Berkeley warn Microsoft of the software patch update system currently in place. Good stuff! I am going to look into this approach a little further, since I have been watching it develop over the past couple years - and now it can be automated.
